Intelligence Reframed by Howard Gardner (Summary Ch 7,8 & 9)

"Project SUMIT" (Schools Using Multiple Intelligence Theory)

This was a 3-year national investigation of schools using MI theory. The SUMIT theory had 6 main topics to cover the implementation of MI in schools; Readiness, Culture, Collaboration, Choice, Tool and Arts.

Readiness - promote the awareness of what MI is and how it can be used properly in the schools.

Culture - MI practices are most likely to emerge in settings that support diverse learners and encourage steady, hard work.

Collaboration - opportunities for formal and informal exchages.

Choice - the school should offer meaningful options for curriculum as well as for assessment of student growth and learning.

Tool - MI should be used as a means of fostering high-quality student work.

Arts - a program rich in the arts should assume a significant role in the school.

At this time I still feel that Gardner cannot prove the Multiple Intelligences in a person but his theories have been used to improve the way teachers teach. Use these intelligences help' promote different ways students learn.
